Online summer English courses 2020

An interactive learning adventure to build your child’s confidence

Our summer courses will spark students’ imaginations, so they can express themselves with confidence that goes beyond their English language skills. Your child will work on an exciting range of practical and challenging tasks that encourage creative thinking in a digital world.

English Summer School. Anytime. Anywhere.

Not sure how your summer plans may change? Our modular English courses for kids and teens can fit around whatever you decide to do during your holiday. Wherever you may be.

Four modules to mix and match

This summer we offer four one-week modules. Each of them is an independent unit of study, so you can register your child for just one or for any combination of modules that suits your plans and budget.

Delivered entirely online

All of our English summer courses will be online. This will help keep everyone safe and will give you the freedom to be anywhere. Whether you’re at home or out of town, all you’ll need is a laptop and a reliable internet connection.

Live lessons, expert teachers and interactive learning

Summer courses for Early years and Lower Primary students (4-7 years)

Join us for an hour each day for a fun and interactive English language experience! Stories, songs, games and crafts will appeal to your child’s imagination and provide rich learning opportunities. Our specially trained teachers will help your child feel safe and secure in an online learning environment and help build their creativity, communication and thinking skills. Through the daily routines and engaging activities, we will help your child build confidence in understanding and responding in English.

Summer courses for Upper Primary and Lower Secondary students (8-12 years)

Happy learners make confident speakers! There are many reasons your child will love our live classes:

  • lots of time to practise speaking English, having fun learning with classmates of the same age
  • varied and interesting age-appropriate topics and activities to keep your child interested throughout

Your child will also be encouraged to develop creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in a relaxed environment where they can be themselves. They will:

  • work in groups or pairs to practise speaking, problem-solving and collaborating on projects with a focus on familiar and real-world topics like the natural world and the environment
  • build resilience and get used to communicating and collaborating online with others in preparation for life in a global, digital world.

Summer courses for Secondary students (13-17 years)

Join our summer course and your teenage child will enjoy dynamic lessons on real-life topics that prepare them for a global world. With our expert teachers, they will:

  • gain confidence in speaking English with their teacher and fellow classmates
  • develop their communication skills by working on projects in pairs and small teams
  • focus on real-world topics like artificial intelligence, gaming, ethical food and climate change.

The second lesson each day is focussed on either project-based content or connecting cultures (on certain days we are going to mix students with other British Council students from other countries).

Summer exam preparation courses for Secondary students

Is your child planning to take a Cambridge First B2 or Advanced C1 exam? An internationally recognized qualification provides evidence of their level of English and enhances their future study and work prospects. Join our exam preparation course to help your child prepare to do their very best in the exam. The course includes:

  • familiarisation with the exam
  • practice on all the papers and question types
  • exam tactics and techniques
  • time management
  • tips and advice
  • personalised feedback in the areas you need
  • mini practice tests to help you to develop your level of language and your exam technique.

How we teach online

We know that working on a screen can be more challenging and intense than in a classroom. To ensure students get the most out of their online learning we use a new combination of:

  • live online classes with their teacher and classmates
  • interactive independent study, set by your child's teacher to prepare them for the live lesson – all in a safe, easy-to-use learning environment.

This way the face-to-face screen time during the live class is used for an immersive and productive lesson – without being too long or too tiring.

Which means we can maintain students’ attention throughout the whole lesson, allowing them more time to speak, participate, and build confidence.

What a one-week module looks like for the courses on our English Online Learning Platform (8-17 years)

Your child will study English five days a week – Monday to Friday.

Each one-week module includes a total of:

  • 10 hours of live online classes
  • 5 hours of interactive guided learning
  • 2.5 hours of live extra activities throughout the week (for example, crafts and songs for younger children, quizzes and talks for older students)

Each day includes:

  • two 60 minute online classes
  • one hour of interactive guided learning
  • one 30 minute live activity session

Technical requirements

Online courses can be accessed using a desktop computer or laptop. You can’t use a mobile phone or tablet because we want to make sure all our students enjoy a quality learning experience.

For your child’s learning experience to be effective, you will need:

  • a good WiFi connection
  • a microphone – if you have a headset or headphones with a built-in microphone this is ideal
  • a speaker and a webcam.
