Communicative Assessment is a short 20-hour online self-access course for busy teachers and examiners of English who are interested in exploring new approaches to assessment and testing.
It offers a range of useful resources, exercises and discussion activities. It helps teachers put communicative assessment theory into practice and provides opportunities for teachers to design assessment tasks and create their own materials for use in their teaching context.
It is a general course suitable for teachers working in primary, secondary, tertiary or the private ELT sector.
The course aims to help teachers:
- identify some of the key areas associated with Communicative Language Teaching
- focus on assessment and testing within the Communicative Approach to English teaching
- link assessment theory directly to the design of testing and assessment materials
- focus on testing each language skill as well as integrating skills testing.
The course requires a minimum of 20 hours' online training to complete and is made up of ten units:
- Assessment theory
- Formative assessment
- Item review
- Item analysis
- Test specification
- Testing reading skills
- Testing writing skills
- Testing listening skills
- Testing speaking skills
- Testing integrated skills
Each unit includes course tasks and exercises, and reading tasks. Some units also include audio tasks.
Participants completing the course successfully will receive a certificate of completion.
Please note that this is not a moderated course. Participants work at their own pace and social interaction with other course participants is provided via TeachingEnglish forums.
Participants are expected to have at least a B1 level of English in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or equivalent competency level.
