Following the successful introduction of the new British Council Secondary Plus course last year, we are now going to offer the course at more levels.
What is Secondary Plus?
Secondary Plus is a modern and innovative English course which is unique to the British Council. The course materials are delivered in an exciting magazine-style format, which learners are issued every few weeks. Stimulating up-to-date topics linked to current issues and real-life tasks provide the incentive for students to develop their communication skills in English, as well as their core life skills to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Learning to learn is another key feature of Secondary Plus which enables learners to become more effective and independent language learners. Throughout the course learners are guided and supported by their teacher and peers so they build positive relationships and learn with and from each other.
The Secondary Plus online learner platform is the digital component of the course; it allows students to consolidate and extend their learning. Secondary Plus also links to the British Council’s highly acclaimed Learn English Teens website, which provides students with additional stimulating and engaging learning content.
Which levels will use Secondary Plus next year?
We will be using Secondary Plus at levels SB1, SB2 and SC1. Each of these levels is a two year course, in line with the recommendations of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The course content in each of the two years is different, and the two years can be studied in either order. Levels SB2 and SC1 include preparation for the exams Cambridge B2 First and Cambridge C1 Advanced.
Given the very positive feedback from our learners about Secondary Plus this year, we will also be introducing some components of the course into other levels during the year, with a view to fuller implementation in the following year.
